Friedrichsburg Castle

built between 1586 and 1593

The landmark of the town of Vohenstrauß and its Palatinate-Neuburg heritage is the picturesque Friedrichsburg Castle. This state-owned Renaissance castle—built by Count Palatine Friedrich between 1586 and 1593—is considered one of the most remarkable castle constructions in the Upper Palatinate. It is a massive, three-story rectangular structure with a steep gabled roof, surrounded by five round towers topped with pointed spires. Its decorative gable features “beautiful battlements in the Italian style.”
