Lower war memorial

Red sandstone column, erected in 1895

On September 1, 1895, the foundation stone was laid, and on October 6, 1895—on the occasion of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the victory of German troops in the Battle of Sedan—the red sandstone Corinthian column was ceremoniously unveiled. Inside the foundation stone lies a document listing the names of 41 war participants. The monument was created by sculptor Bock from Weiden. It commemorates the 42 men from Vohenstrauß who took part in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/1871, two of whom fell in battle.
